Today we headed to the zoo with our friends Dominika and Ava.

Turns out it was the perfect day to go. No crowds, beautiful weather, and beautiful new exhibits to explore.

Mommy with Norah and Justin on elephant patrol.

Norah claiming the baby one as her own, and trying to climb up on it all by herself.

Justin found the big one, and was caught trying to hang from it's nose. At other times he just tried to lead it where he wanted to go. They were off on safari.

The three kids' attention was caught by the real elephants walking around.

Norah sang softly to herself as she watched the elephants graze. I can't help but wonder what she was thinking.

We discovered the greatness of the giraffe enclosure that is designed to allow visitors to feed the giraffes lettuce.

Needless to say this was a big hit. I was in charge of holding the kids up to feed the giraffes as they came to feed while Dominika worked the camera.

Norah really didn't understand that she was supposed to let go of the lettuce and a tug of war ensued with the giraffe. The giraffe won.

Justin feeding and then petting the giraffe.

Dominika and I took turns petting the giraffe too before it wandered off.

Justin behind the wheel of the jeep. Should we be scared?

All the kids ready to head out into the bush!

One of the cafe's is set up to allow the lions to come right up to the glass while people eat. Justin and Norah were thrilled and terrified at the same time to see one so close!

But that didn't stop them from going to check it out more closely.

Ava was quick to come and share the close encounter!

The kids loved climbing on all the statues throughout the zoo.

Justin held one statue's hand, while Norah talked to the daddy statue.

Then tried to climb up on it.

I think it safe to say that the crocodile statue was the most popular. Justin threw himself on top of it and wrapped his arms around it's mouth. The girls climbed on it's back to pose for the photo opp.

Apparently it needed a lot of taming, because it took a while to convince the kids to keep going.

Norah and Justin playing among the boulders.

Monkeys posing with monkeys.

The turtles were really active this afternoon and the kids were able to feed them grass! Justin tried climbing in with them. Of course.

Justin with the baby elephant.

All three kids trying to hug the elephant at once.

Two beautiful little girls posing so sweetly.

All three sitting together for one last picture before leaving.

A little zebra who tried to follow me home!

My two baby giraffes looking very cute.
It was a great day, with a perfect combination of weather, active animals, and friends! While we were sad to leave, everyone was exhausted and ready for a nap, especially the two mommies.
