Gifts from Afar

A package for Norah and Justin arrived today from Grandma and Grandpa overseas. Justin received a construction hardhat, which is completely appropriate considering his tendency to run into things head first. He seems to have a particularly strong inclination toward demolition as he has a propensity to take things apart, and bulldoze everything in sight. His lineage suggests he might be destined toward the construction industry one way or another. One Great-Grandpa is the very definition of construction, his other Great Grandpa was an Architect, his Great Aunt and several cousins are Engineers and his daddy is a Landscape Architect.

Norah received a shawl that she wraps around her head like the people she sees in Sunday school pictures and Nativity scenes. She remembered that she played a game with my dad while they were here at Christmas, where he wrapped a blanket around her and called her "Mary". She calls the shawl her "Mary dress".

Both new gifts immediately received a great deal of attention from their respective owners. Justin doesn't wear his hat very often, but it has not been ignored. He hordes blocks and toy food in it and pretends to eat out of it like an infantry soldier. Norah's "Mary dress" is very popular, and has entered her regular wardrobe rotation along with one of Jeff's old T-shirts, my old pink tank top and her tinkerbell dress.
