19 Months

This month we are happy to report that all of Justin's teeth have finally broken through and we are done with teething. While it felt like forever for this to happen, at our last pediatric appointment the doctor was surprised at how fast he was getting his teeth and by how many he had.

For a baby who couldn't be bribed to sit and read a book not that long ago, it's great to find him sitting quietly with a book on his own. He has a few favorites that he will bring to us to read to him, and will sit still long enough to hear them a couple of times. Of course, if he isn't interested in reading, or in the book that's been picked up he won't even pretend interest. He just gets up and runs off!

We are excited that he is now pointing to pictures and identifying Norah, Mommy, and Daddy in them. We even think he is starting to recognize himself! Since we have a ton of pictures throughout the house, on the computer and in photo albums, there are plenty of opportunities to practice.

Lately Justin has been fascinated with babies. They are everywhere we go and not only does he point them out, he also is quick to tell us if they're crying or not. We aren't sure where this came from, but love the fact that he wants to go comfort them. Of course the parents of these babies probably don't want some unknown toddler coming up to their babies, so we just tell him that they will be all right. He normally responds by saying "oh" or "yep" which is pretty cute too.

The best new development this month is his "I love you!" response. When I go to lay him down for a nap, as I'm closing the door I always tell him that I love him. It's beautiful to hear him respond with the same. It's also pretty funny when we are out shopping to hear him say it too. The other morning we were at Target, with Norah and Justin in the basket part of the cart. They stood facing out towards on coming shoppers and yelled "I love you", "Hi!" and "Bye" to anyone and everyone. We got a lot of smiles and it made for a nice shopping experience for all.
