Surprise Surprise Baby Shower

During my pregnancy with Norah we were given multiple baby showers from family, friends, and co-workers. All were wonderfully done and very thoughtful. With this pregnancy however we knew not to expect too much as we already have many of the basics, and it seems we were just doing this whole "baby thing" a few months ago.

Our Bible Study class scheduled a potluck dinner to accompany our regular class activities this week. We were unaware that this was actually a disguised baby shower for our baby boy.

As we walked into the building we ran into Carolyn, who was carrying a cake and a present, which should have been a tip-off that something was afoot. Jeff had his arms full and was very intent on delivering our culinary contribution to the classroom and was in his own little world, so this did not arouse suspicion. If that wasn't surprising enough, as we entered the classroom he passed a table covered in baby shower gifts of all sizes and colors along with the decorated cake Carolyn brought, and never noticed anything was going on. It was 7 pm and he was still thinking about food.

Finally Jeff turned and stopped in his tracks as he realized he had been standing 3 feet from an impressive collection of gifts that could only be for a baby boy. He couldn't believe he had missed it. Jeff has since suggested he might need a little more sleep.

From that point we enjoyed a nice dinner, did some Bible Study and got to open all the very thoughtful presents. Our little guy is definitely much better equipped after today. Carolyn thought she had given away the surprise, but when dealing with very distracted parents not even a decorated cake and table full of presents is a give away!

Once again we are awed by the continued generosity and thoughtfulness of our friends at church.
