Wile E Norah and Justin

Encouraging the kids to be creative is a daily goal, and most days we are successful. A pair of scissors, a glue stick, paper and lots of markers provide an outlet for both energy and creativity. Norah and Justin love to color, cut and glue, and can do so for several hours at a time. Their favorite craft right now is to decorate cardboard boxes that deliveries have arrived in, and no box is left untouched (they pounce on it before it's even been emptied sometimes).

We have been very fortunate this Spring to have received so much rainfall. The only down side is that it's not conducive to sending kids outside to burn off energy. So to avoid the chaos that comes when two little kids decide they're bored, without turning on the tv, I sent them out to color. They were occupied for almost an hour and a half, giggling, talking and working on their pictures. I was pleased by how good they were being, and was mentally patting myself on the back for my quick thinking. So far I had not had to referee any fights, or stop anyone from racing through the house in circles. Then I realized that it had gone a little too smoothly. And there had been an awful lot of giggling going on....

When I walked into the room, they were eager to show me their pictures, and were not acting like they were up to anything, so I was momentarily relieved. Then I noticed that one of the table's chairs was over to the side, on it's own. As I went to move it back, I saw a sticky substance covering the seat. I immediately knew what had happened and why, but turned to ask them for confirmation.

Me: "You guys, why is there glue all over this seat?"
Norah: "Because we wanted to catch someone and make them stick to the seat! Like the coyote!"

Recently Jeff has been letting them watch the old Warner Bros. cartoons, and their favorites are the ones that feature Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. They love them and will chase each other through the house, one pretending to be the coyote, the other the road runner. Or sometimes they're both the road runner. They are always confused by the coyote's plans to catch the road runner, and consider the bird mean for not letting itself be caught. Apparently they really liked the idea of catching someone with glue on a seat and wanted to try it out.

Fortunately the glue came right off, and no harm was done. I guess we'll just need to make sure they don't get their hands on any ACME TNT and avoid canyons at all costs.
