This year we were very excited to get to celebrate Patrick's college graduation. We were even more fortunate that so many people were able to join us in the festivities. Mom arrived first, followed by Grandma and Grandpa. Dad, Matthew and Alyssa all arrived Thursday, along with Aunt Denise and Uncle Mark, and Aunt Pat flew in Saturday morning.
Patrick graduated with honors on Saturday morning, and that evening we threw a party. Friends and family gathered to congratulate him and wish him well. After dinner, we at cake, sat around, and told "Patrick" stories, making him wince and laugh (sometimes simultaneously). At times it felt like more of a "roast", but it was all out of love for our directionally challenged Patrick. Field trip to Crockett anyone?
Norah and Justin were excited by all the festivities. They got to open gifts from the San Diego clan, after which Daddy and Uncle Mark tried to show them how to hit their new baseball. Strongly hinting with the words "I like purple", Norah sweet talked Aunt Pat into the opportunity to try on some of her "purple" jewelry. Justin helped rearrange the balloons over and over again, which necessitated the night's highest entertainment, the retrieval of several helium balloons from the 15 foot peak of the clubhouse ceiling. Suggestions ranged from mountaineering gear or tower building to BB guns, but ultimately Grandpa's broom handle and double sided tape won the day.
Norah loved being with her Aunt Lyss, whose side she rarely left, and Justin loved all the food available to him. He was especially fond of the green and yellow M&Ms, and wore a smeared ring of chocolate around his lips for the majority of the evening. Both kids probably ate their weight in chocolate before we finally put the candy dish beyond their reach. All that aside, Justin's favorite activity was cleanup, as he grabbed a broom and swept the floor for us after the party. That's all he wanted to do. He was very intense and wanted to do the entire thing himself.
In the end, we all had a great time and took home two very tired but happy babies.
