Norah and Justin have become very accustomed to our exercise routine. They want to participate too, but they are too little to keep up and too heavy to carry. Jeff's office provided a great opportunity for us to have some family exercise, when they invited all employees to participate in the Trinity River Levee 5k fun run at the new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge designed by world famous architect Santiago Calatrava.

Since the run was a little lax on rules, we decided to take the kids with us. Norah and Justin were excited about the idea until the day before, then decided to loudly protest as they considered how many strangers would be there. Their stance changed yet again once they figured out they could ride on our shoulders or hold our hands.

The kids donned their warm up suits, hats and sunglasses, and were ready to run, or more specifically, be carried. They are heavy little angels, but it was a really fun time. We took turns carrying each kid and raced each other, which spurred giggles from the kids along with screams of "WE'RE GONNA GET YOU!" It was the slowest 5 k either of us has ever run, but it was well worth it. Both kids were very excited when we crossed the finish line. We're not sure how, but they were convinced we won the race.
We love that the kids want to run with us, and hope that as they grow older they will find something that they are passionate about. Our goal is to avoid "couch potato syndrome" by encouraging them to be physically active.
