Norah and Justin recently watched Monsters Inc. and loved it. However, as a result Norah has started asking before nap time or bedtime, "Mommy, what if a monster comes?" I told her to tell the monster to go away because she's trying to sleep. She smiled but informed me that Daddy told her to scare the monster by growling, and then she demonstrated a fierce growl. It was entertaining to watch her go "GRRRR!!!" with teeth clenched and hands curled, smiling with her mouth and her eyes. Her giggles are contagious and it's now become routine.
Justin on the other hand comes running up to us at random times and says he's scared because of the monster (in all fairness he did this before watching the film). We tell him to go scare the monster back, and he does, but he would rather have us come with him to whichever location he's decided a monster is lurking. Jeff normally humors him by scaring off the monster with a dramatic roar.
During nap time one afternoon I heard him crying and went to check on him. I asked him what was wrong and he said he was scared, that there was a monster. Just then I heard a thumping sound against the wall on the other side of the room. Startled, he looked over and said, "What's that sound?.......It's a monster!" I tried very hard not to laugh as I explained that the sound was his sister bumping up against the wall in her room (most likely with her feet) as she rolled around in bed. He smiled as I told him that I would go ask Norah to be more quiet, and that if he heard any more sounds, to scare the monster by growling. That got him smiling and he was asleep moments later. Norah thought it was very funny that Justin believed she was a monster, but was considerate and quiet afterward.
