My Helpers

I started making the icing for the cupcakes in preparation for their birthday party this weekend. It's something I love to do and have done for each of the kids' birthdays, starting with Norah three years ago. Extravagant gifts are not really an option for us right now, however I can make homemade treats for them and personalize them for their special day.

While I was mixing the icing, both Norah and Justin were curious about what I was doing, and wandered over to the kitchen. Soon they were climbing atop Norah's purple car to get a better look at Mommy's activities, and before I knew it they were pulling their stools from the other counter over to where I was working.

It's a good thing I was finished at that point, because they sat side by side and effectively kicked me out! They immediately started tasting the icing, and they loved it, much to my delight. They had been talking nonstop, but suddenly the room was silent but for the smacking of lips and the occasional, "Mommy I like this!"

It was also a good thing that I put away the bowl of icing at that point because the spoon and bowl were completely spotless by the time they were done. Both of them were covered in icing. It was on their hands, faces, elbows, arms, and clothes. The pictures don't do it justice.

They really enjoyed getting a little taste of their birthday festivities to come!
