Looking Out For Her Brother

At 9 AM I took Justin to his 2 week appointment, after which I discovered that the air conditioner fan had given up amidst this nearly 100 degree heat. The repairmen were called and help was on the way, but that was little consolation for a mother, her 12 month old, and her 2 week old. At first it wasn't so bad, but after a couple of hours, the house began to heat up and the babies and I were soon completely miserable. We couldn't leave the house until either the electrician or Jeff arrived so we were stuck. At one point Norah tried to share her water with Justin. She's such a sweet baby! I'll have to remind them of this moment whenever they start to fight later on.

The repairmen finally arrived at 7 PM, just before Jeff got home from work. I grabbed the two little ones and went to my brothers' apartment. After the a/c unit was fixed, Jeff was able to join us for an awesome dinner that mom had prepared, and we were able to go home to a much cooler house.

A difficult day was compounded by Justin refusing to sleep the night before, wiggling and squirming all night, keeping us both awake. Jeff slept no more than 60 consecutive minutes and I slept no more than 30 consecutive minutes. Early in the morning Jeff was saddened to hear that his uncle had passed away following a very long illness. Then at work Jeff encountered some of the usual craziness associated with Landscape Architecture and coordination with other disciplines, which meant he had a very hectic day.

We were very glad when the day finally came to a close, to the sweet sound of a functioning air conditioning unit.
