Today was Serve Day at our Church. Over 500 volunteers from adults to young children, went out into the communities around us and participated in projects of all types. Firemen were fed, parks were picked up, homes and schools were given a scrub down and fresh paint, school supplies were collected and packaged for children in Iraq, food and clothing were collected, and more.I participated in putting together health kits for our Disaster Response Team (DRT). My group completed over 200 kits in a little less than an hour! They have already been picked up from the church and are headed to Louisiana. Jeff, Phillip, Russell, and Patrick were part of the DRT Demolition group that headed out to Frisco to help tear down sheds that no longer met city code.
After each project was completed the groups returned to the church for lunch, and a slide show was given so that everyone could see what everyone else had worked on. Then announcements were made about each project and it's outcome. Unfortunately, out of the 500 people who participated today, three did not come directly back to the church. They had each stepped on rusty nails, and had been taken to the hospital for tetanus shots. The three people were announced as "the three Hamilton brothers". The announcer was quickly corrected with the right last name and....In the end, it was Phillip, Russell, and Patrick.
Once I had established that everyone was okay, I couldn't stop laughing.
To commemorate the day, Jeff and I purchased a small piece of wall art for their apartment. It's a very simple design. It just has three nails on it. They don't find it as funny as we do.
All kidding aside, we really enjoyed participating and serving others and hope to make it a bigger part of our lives in the future, and part of our daughter's life.

Hehe, the wall art was definitely appropriate, and very amusing how quickly you found it!
Those pesky nails better look out when I bring the thunder with a pair of USMC-approved, steel toed, steel soled, "Go Devil" boots (yet to be purchased)!
