Jeff and I started our Childbirth Preparation classes at the hospital a few weeks ago. So far they have been pretty interesting and the other couples are really nice. There are about eight couples, and what makes it really fun is that we are all about the same number of weeks (plus or minus one).
People had warned us ahead of time to beware the videos but both Jeff and I agree that the ones we had to watch in high school were a lot more graphic. The epidural video was the only one that bothered Jeff. He wasn't the only one, another father-to-be was quick to confess that he almost passed out just watching it on a video. The thing I can't get over is that they never showed anything!
This class has been very comprehensive, teaching everything from indications of labor to the three stages of labor, c-sections, drugs, breathing techniques, and shoulder massage. We feel much more prepared for the whole process.
Recently we got to tour the hospital, saw the delivery and recovery rooms, and even the supply closets. I think everyone agreed that the best part was getting to see the nursery! Seeing newborns in their first hours of life started to make the whole thing seem real. We saw some new parents and their families glowing as they watched their baby through the glass. It began to dawn on us that our time will be here before we know it.

Just thinking about y'all and wondering how it's going. Y'all will be wonderful parents don't worry! And you'll still feel the glossy eyed look of a new parent standing at the nursery window every day when you look at your child. I still do that at least! ;) The classes help, but it's still a rush and things happen so quickly it's hard to remember everything the class teaches you. Just go with the flow and you'll be fine! IT"S NOT THAT BAD! I hated that people tried to scare me before birth with horror stories. AGAIN...IT'S NOT THAT BAD! Once you get the drugs.... they work wonders ;) - Amanda (& Charlotte)-
