Doctor's, Snow and Ice ...Oh My!

The first month of the year ended with more a whimper than a bang in this household. Not only did we receive record snowfall for this area, but as a family we are fairly certain we hit a record on illnesses, doctor visits, co-pays, and medications.

It started off with Justin and Norah coming down with fevers that turned into a combination of strep and sinus infections and spiraled downhill from there. They were both miserable, with high fevers and sore throats all they wanted to do was cuddle with Mommy and Daddy.

After both babies were diagnosed with strep, the pediatrician told Jeff that I should see my doctor too (I had stayed home from work because of a severe sore throat). I decided to be different, and was diagnosed with a "mutant sinus infection" that resulted in having my ears flushed out and five different medications. It took almost two weeks to fully recover and I felt so bad that Jeff even came home with store bought flowers for me.

Jeff contracted a sinus infection too, but thankfully he saw the doctor before it got too bad. The only positive thing about when he got sick was that it kept him off the roads that were covered in ice, that was covered in snow, that were covered in more ice. While he takes his job and all it's responsibilities very seriously, being ill allowed him to stay home with us, to recuperate away from the nasty weather.

We were all too miserable to take any pictures of all the medicine but are still amazed that none were administered incorrectly. We estimate that there we a total of at least 10-13 types of medication for this household during the last two weeks. Jeff became very familiar with the pharmacists, sometimes making multiple trips to the pharmacy in a single day. This elicited sympathetic "What now?" smiles from the staff, to which he responded with the following: first Justin got strep, 2 days later Norah got strep, my wife has a mutant sinus infection, I have a cold, the dog has an ear infection (I have a scrip for that too), the fish are swimming crooked, and the houseplants look a bit yellow. Keep your distance, we're not healthy and it seems to be catching." Needless to say we are all glad to be back on the mend.
