Dinosaur Daze

The kids and I were cooped up almost all week and while we completed many chores, all of us were starting to come down with cabin fever.

So I decided to take advantage of our museum membership and see the Dinosaur exhibit. It featured two life size dinosaurs that roared and moved. Both kids were entranced.

On our way to the exhibit we met Laura, a museum employee with a passion for teaching, who became our unofficial, official tour guide. She showed the kids bones, footprints, and more, all the while listening to their questions, and trying to answer them before the next one was asked.

We saw mechanical dinosaurs that moved when you pushed their buttons, but those were not nearly as amazing as the ones inside.

Justin was really excited about the whole thing, while Norah took a more cautious approach. Maybe she read the sign! Or got a sneak peek.

This "red T-rex" as the kids named him, was motion activated and poked his head over the rocks to roar at us as we walked in. Both kids were a bit frightened at first, so I told them to tell him to be quiet and to go take a nap. I didn't realize how long it would continue to roar, so according to the kids, he didn't listen very well.

We saw skeletons and more "live" dinosaurs, though they were less intimidating than the "red t-rex", and the kids were able to make them move.

We played at the sand table trying to dig up dinosaur bones, then Laura joined us again and told the kids all she could about the dinosaurs we were observing. The kids were quick to interrupt her and tell her that the "red t-rex" wouldn't take a nap. She was confused but rolled with it.

Some dinosaurs needed a little bit of maintenance, but it made me laugh to learn that this was considered a very smart dinosaur! For obvious reasons.....it had it's own tool box (thus making it Justin's favorite of all)!

We dug for more bones and played on the computer before saying goodbye and heading to the main part of of the children's museum. The kids were only slightly disappointed to say goodbye to the dinosaurs.

Gathering eggs and vegetables is always Norah's favorite part of the visit and that's the first thing we did. Gone was her hesitancy, replaced by enthusiasm.

We played on the fire truck, we petted "animals", we played in at the water tables, crawled through an ant hill and milked a cow all the while have a GREAT time.

Then we went to the BIG sand pits to dig for BIG dinosaur bones. The kids had so much fun playing in the sand. It also helped that it was quiet and that except for a few kids, we were the only ones there.

Overall we had a wonderful time and wore ourselves out so much, that when it was time to go home, no one fussed or cried. We said goodbye to the big dinosaurs out front, then had our picture taken, and headed home.

Listening to the We are the Dinosaurs all the way home.
Whatdya think of that?

WE LOVED IT!!!!!
