Happy Anniversary to Us!

Today we celebrated our 8th anniversary. Every year seems to pass more quickly than the last, but every year seems to be happier and better. It has been fun growing together, instead of just growing older. We know each well enough to predict many behaviors before they occur, but being individual people, still find ways to surprise each other every now and then.

I know when Heather leaves the kitchen, the cabinet door will stand open, until I shut it . She knows she will come home from work to find the dinner plates, still sitting in the sink, unrinsed until she cleans them. She knows my muddy shoes will sit at the back door for weeks. I know she will leave an obstacle course of laundry baskets, vacuum cords, etc through the narrowest pathways through the house (I'm convinced this is in an attempt to assassinate me).

That's just a small sample of things we can count on each other doing to make us want to pull our hair out on a daily basis. Fortunately we know that even when we're certain our partner can't understand what a miserable day we've had or horrendous news we've heard, we surprise each other by knowing exactly what to say, or not say. In the end, (cough) she's still not going to shut the cabinet, and I'm not moving those shoes until I need them again. Although we'll grit our teeth, I think we're alright with that.

I'm queen of making those obstacle courses and my hubby's muddy shoes are by the back door as I type. :) You guys are great.
