How Do You Celebrate?

Tonight was a very typical Monday night for us. We ate a hasty dinner, then headed over to the church for our Disciple class. At the conclusion, we headed home and planned on getting the kids bathed and in bed quickly as the hour was only getting late.

That was the plan anyway. Before we could get the kids into the bath, from the bathroom, I heard Justin screaming in our bedroom. Jeff got to him moments before I did, to find his face covered in blood, the bed sheets where he was standing covered in blood, all of which seemed to be coming from his mouth. After trying to calm him down, and using a wet, cold wash cloth to wipe as much of the blood away as possible, we discerned that he had cut himself on the bed frame. While we could not be sure that it hadn't gone completely through his cheek, it was obvious that he was going to need glue (hopefully not stitches). Fortunately we had gone through this with Norah just two weeks prior and so knew what needed to be done. We called the urgent care clinic, but they were in the process of closing, so I bundled Justin, grabbed a washcloth and towel and headed to the ER.The hospital staff and even the other patients waiting to be seen fell immediately under his spell. He was the youngest one there and looked incredibly pitiful with his plug, blanket, and bloody face. They kept asking him what happened to which he would respond "I hurt bed". When they asked him if he was hurt he would say "Yep" in a soft sad little voice.

It only took us an hour and a half. The doctor glued Justin's cut closed after determining that it hadn't gone through all the way. We said goodbye to everyone then headed home to Daddy and Norah (who by this time was already sound asleep). Daddy cuddled with Justin for a bit, and then it was time for everyone to go to bed. Justin fell asleep almost immediately. As we laid down, Jeff looked at me and wished me a happy anniversary. It was after midnight and so the 27th, our 8th wedding anniversary. What a night.
