Needle in a Haystack

We somehow managed to tear Norah away from the Discovery Kids channel and loaded up the car for a short hike through the forest. The kids enjoyed flinging rocks and sticks into the streams and would have happily stood by the water all day creating a small beaver dam had we not insisted on moving along. We almost reached the end of the trail when we realized that Heather's necklace had broken and her gold cross pendant was lost. We scoured the trail without luck all the way back to the car, and had to return to the cabin for lunch and nap time.

Norah was ornery and refused to sleep, so I loaded her in the car and headed back to the trail for another needle in a haystack search. Norah loved the thought of finding Mommy's necklace, but had a tough time surrounded by infinite distractions. There were just too many rocks begging for a dip in the stream. I alternated between kid wrangling and treasure hunting for almost the entirety of the course, and had about given up hope when my attention was caught by a tiny gold glint upon the pine needles and Heather's cross was found. Norah squealed with delight and beamed with pride when I showed it to her. She danced and skipped along the trail as she sang an impromtu song about finding Mommy's cross.

Norah proudly shows Mommy the recovered cross pendant.

Justin notices the pine trees are really tall.
