A Lasting Legacy

I have been going to our church since the fall of 1996. My sister was baptized there, Jeff and I were married there, and both our babies were also baptized there. It is an important part of our lives and we try to be as active within it as we can, though our hectic schedules coupled with a little laziness leaves some room for improvement.

Last year our church went through a big campaign in order to raise funds for a new sanctuary as it was obvious that we had outgrown our current one. Most would consider this to be a bad time to build, but it has been the history of our church to grow during times of economic uncertainty, leading to a stronger community of faith and fellowship. The funds were raised and construction began.

Today everyone was invited to a ceremony to sign a steel beam that will be lifted up into the sanctuary. I had to work during the scheduled ceremony, so Jeff took the babies and joined my family at the church. They signed everyone's names and even got a couple of photos. After work, Jeff and I took the babies and headed over so that I could see it. I was then able to trace the babies' hand prints onto the beams.

One of our family goals is to maintain strong ties within the church. We appreciate the symbolic gesture of placing our names literally within the structure of the church itself and hope it serves as a reminder to us in the future.
