Bad Day Salvaged

Following our failed excursion we tried to save the day with the kid's first attempt at mini-golf.  Neither of them knew what to do with a crooked stick, and the grip drove them crazy.  To get them remotely in the right position we had to teach them to hold the club up in the air like a baseball bat, then lay it down.  They did surprisingly well.  We expected they might tee off rather than putt, but their biggest challenge was swinging hard enough to get up the little hills which normally took half a dozen attempts.

After a brief and chilly swim at the pool, we ended the day with a quiet evening back at the cabin.  The kids enjoyed watching me light the charcoal on fire and were mesmerized by the dancing flames.  The day ultimately was a success as we relaxed and sat quietly, grilling, eating, and enjoying being outside while the kids chased birds and feral cats.
