Norah turned 21 months today, and we are inching ever closer to the 2 year mark. Time is flying by and the changes we see in her are constant, and we are racing to keep up with her. During the last month her communication skills grew by leaps and bounds.

She is able to repeat pretty much anything we say after only hearing it once, so we have begun to refer to her as our little parrot. She has
finally started to refer to me as "Momma" and will say it to get my attention!!! I only had to wait 21 months for it! She has also gotten really good at recognizing animals and can tell you what sounds they make. Her favorite are puppies, but loves anything that moves including horses, cows, birds, lions, and butterflies.

The only real downside to her latest developments has been her occasional fits. Since she knows exactly what she does and does not want she tends to get pretty upset when things don't go her way. She has major issues with us
not letting her stand in a moving shopping cart or stroller, and gets very upset when we don't let her climb up onto the rolling swivel chair that stands on concrete. However we realize that this is just a normal part of her development and have come up with several different ways in which to deal with this. The most popular method being the removal of either her or the object from the area. We talk to her and explain what is going on and why.

She will also point out the features on our faces and name them (and recognizes that hair and head are two different things). The only problem is when she goes to point out Justin's mouth and teeth. Despite our warnings that he is going to bite her she can't resist putting her finger in his mouth, at which point he inevitably bites her.

She has also started climbing everything in sight and is a very determined and creative little girl. She has already managed to get into Justin's crib and is currently looking for alternative routes up into it, including climbing onto his rocking chair, and then from there into the crib. We are lucky that she hasn't tried climbing
out of her crib (or his for that matter) but realize that it is probably just a matter of time before we have to deal with that!

Norah has also become my second set of ears during the day. If she is up while Justin is napping she helps me listen for him and is one of the first to say "Justin's awake". It's very clear and she is usually right, although sometimes I think she's saying it in the hopes that I will go get him so that she can play with him.

A favorite development is her love of giving us "high fives". She will lift her hand up and say "high five" to which we will respond by letting her slap our hand. The most entertaining part is when she goes up to an unsuspecting Justin and says "high five". He just looks at her, having no clue as to what she is saying or expecting from him. She becomes annoyed that he isn't playing along and wanders off. I've started taking Justin's hand and tapping hers with it so that she won't think that he doesn't want to play. Hopefully she will keep trying to interact with him and maybe teach him something too.
