The kids and I have often enjoyed listening to the Aquabats while cleaning the house, but we recently discovered that they have their own TV show on the Hub. I thought it would be fun to watch together, so we curled up on a chair and watched it. It caught the kids' attention as they tried to figure out the plot. After a few minutes, one of the characters accidentally summoned a monster known as "The Floating Eye of Death", who began emitting laser beams at the heroes, turning them each into green faced zombies.
Neither of our kids will even blink anymore at the scariest scenes in Star Wars, but surprisingly this unnerved them both. Norah's hands covered her ears and Justin's hands covered his mouth as they independently froze in place, too afraid to look away; then eased farther back to snuggle tightly against me. They both told me it was too scary and they didn't like it. I fast forwarded through the majority of the show to reveal the heroic escape, then explained that it was all "pretend", nobody was hurt, and there is no "Floating Eye of Death". Unfortunately, I think I will pay for this lapse in judgement as Justin cannot stop talking about the "Floating Eye of Death", and has even started drawing it during playtime (we think his picture is a fairly accurate rendition of the original and have posted a comparison to demonstrate). Way to go Dad.
