Happy 4th Birthday Norah

Over the last year, Norah has grown tremendously. She is quite the song bird, constantly singing songs she made up songs or those she's learned simply by listening. It doesn't take her long to pick up a tune and will sing it over and over again.

She has started to mimic Jeff and I when someone is preparing
to leave a room, she will look at them and say, "Hey! Where's my hug and kiss?" We do this to both kids when they try to leave a room without giving us hugs and kisses and it's funny to watch her do it to us now. She has also started to declare, "This is unacceptable!" Guess she's heard it a few times.

Her dreams are incredibly vivid and while sometimes they produce giggles and smiles, other times we hear shrieks and cries. The other night she woke up convinced that she had seen an orange caterpillar crawling along the back rail of her bed. It took a while to convince her that it had simply been a dream because she KNEW she had seen it.

In addition to being very musical, she's using her vivid imagination to draw. She colors and draws on any scrap of paper she can get her hands on. She's gotten pretty good and tries to be as accurate as possible. She drew a picture of a character from Lilo & Stitch that had the appropriate number of eyes (8). When doing a self portrait, she even included her mole.
We enjoy that she is she using her imagination, and when she finishes one she promptly takes it to the fridge and attaches it with a magnet.

One of her new favorite things is Scooby Doo and after watch
ing both the old and new episodes. When we decline to do what she requests, she has begun asking, "Would you do it for a Scooby Snack?". Though we've had to remain strong and not show either our laughter or smiles, it does become very hard to tell her "no".

One afternoon I found Norah in her room searching like mad for what she described as her "pink pig that she likes, that's Heart Bear's friend, her boyfriend." I finally found it (it's the pink pig that's the same size as Heart Bear). She was very excited that I found Heart Bear's friend, but then started showing me all her other little groups. One of which had her little guinea pig in it. She asked me if she could have a real guinea pig for her birthday.......

On our way home from church one Sunday Jeff and I were going over the plan for the day, week and (tentatively) the month. This is not unusual as we have a busy and at times complicated schedule, however this time, Jeff joked at the end of our discussion that "God must hate [him]!" Norah instantly piped up from the back seat to reprimand him, d
eclaring very forcefully, "Daddy, God doesn't love like that!" We were so proud that she recognized this and were quick to reassure her that we were only joking. Since then we have been much more aware of the little ears in our midst.

After our experience with Norah in the hospital, life returned to normal. But when I told Norah we were headed to see our doctor (for the kids' annual checku
p) she became very agitated. She loves the doctor and enjoys these visits. I didn't think much of it though, and piled the kids into the car and left. On our way Norah started complaining that her tummy hurt. This surprised me but I thought she was simply hungry or had to use the bathroom. Then she threw up. This shocked me. We made it to the doctor's, got her cleaned up and headed inside. I was worried that she had caught a bug, until they took her blood pressure. She had become so anxious over her visit and her memories of the hospital, that her blood pressure was MUCH higher than it should have been.

Our doctor took the time to just talk to her about everyday things and when they took it again twenty minutes later, she was fine.
She should have received 4 immunizations, but due to the fact that 2 were live viruses and could cause fevers, combined with her seizure, our doctor opted to only give her the other two and wait until the following year on the others.

During her annual check up the doctor expressed how pleased she was with her developments and she now weighs 39lbs and is 42inches tall (grown 4 inches this year). We are so proud of all she is learning and doing as she continues to grow. While it's hard to believe 4 years have gone by so quickly, we look forward to what the coming year will bring!
