Mr. Clean

Justin has discovered a new passion since Daddy won't let him use his power tools or shovels. He loves to help wash the dishes. When he hears the rush of water and the clinking and clanking of dishes, he comes running to the kitchen, bar stool in tow.

Standard protocol is for Heather or I to wash the dishes, then Justin rinses them and wildly arranges them on the dish towel by the sink. Due to his lack of structural consideration in his stacking, we think it's best he's not allowed to touch glass objects. He lets us know when he thinks something is too big for him to handle, then waits patiently while we rinse it off, with his attention focused on our technique. He observes everything. He's an enthusiastic little helper and does a thorough job, although he gets distracted when he thinks new dishes are coming and misses his share of suds. He's quick to retrieve a soapy spoon or cup and give it another shower before returning it to the clean pile, it just means more fun for him.

One of my favorite activities is working on things with other people, so the opportunity to work with him and see his enthusiasm is a joy, even if it is a little slower.
