The Other Side of Love

It is not a slight thing when those so fresh from God love us. -- Dickens

I think it goes without saying that Jeff and I are completely and utterly in love with our children. We love everything about them, but we are also discovering the wonderment that comes with knowing that they love us in return.

The day Jeff came home from being laid off, we stood in the living room, me holding Justin, Jeff holding Norah, and Jeff with his arm around me. I started to cry. Norah reached down, placed her hands on either side of my face, and laid her head upon mine. Several weeks later, Jeff was alone with Norah, and was sitting with her in his lap. He looked directly into her eyes and asked her if she knew how much he loved her. She responded by taking her hands and placing them on either side of his face, leaning in and kissing him.

Justin has started giving "kisses" and is constantly touching our faces. He tries to grab us and hold us to him, and when we come into the room, his face lights up with a smile. As I hold him, he will push away from me to stare into my eyes, then smiles real big, and then curls into me as close as he can get.

They are an enormous responsibility, and we worry constantly that we are doing the right things for them. But they are worth it, and as far as we are concerned, our children are the perfect examples of God's grace. For everything that we have done wrong in our lives, we have these two perfect creatures that love us unconditionally, who bring us joy, laughter and love. When we take a moment to consider how amazing they are and that they love us in return, it makes everything worthwhile.

To quote Genesis (the Bible not the band):
These are the children God has given me. God has been good to me. -Genesis 33:5
