Norah's first major road trip was to Stillwater, Oklahoma for OSU's Homecoming celebration. Homecoming is one thing OSU does really well and involves more than mums and the Homecoming King and Queen.
Some of the featured elements are the house decorations which are designed and built by students in the front yard of their houses. Construction and design were begun shortly after Fall classes began, and the crepe paper "pomping" was completed just in time for the Friday night "Walkaround" during which time all the streets are closed to vehicles and replaced with throngs of alumni and spouses, children, pets, etc. There are multitudes of colors and sounds, and many of the decorations utilize moving parts or water features. The above pictures are just a small sample of the event, but lighting and crowds make it impossible to get a full view of even one house. It had always been Jeff's wish that we go as a family since it has been a tradition in his family as far back as he can remember, and it was a fun experience for all of us.
The drive was pretty easy since Norah slept the majority of the way, and she enjoyed seeing the sights once we got there. The only downside to the whole weekend was that she had difficulty sleeping due to allergy flare ups and her curiosity to see all the new things.
We've noticed that when she is in a new place, no matter how tired she is she refuses to sleep because she is too busy taking in everything around her. Needless to say the two of us didn't get much sleep that weekend. But OSU beat Kansas State, her allergies calmed down once we got home and disappeared with the use of a humidifier, and Mom got some much needed rest. Not bad for her first big weekend away from home.
