Ultra-cool

Our 25 week appointment was infinitely more enjoyable than our 23 week checkup. We've cleared up all questions about contraction issues, as the Dr. has assured us that premature labor isn't imminent. My measurements are catching up with my pregnancy week and the doctor is much happier.

I took the glucose challenge test, and while the orange drink wasn't as nasty as feared, I'll take Sunkist any day. Hopefully I passed, and won't have to take the double shot of orange glucose drink and endure multiple blood drawings over 4 hours. We should get the results sometime this week.

We aren't happy without issues, so my blood pressure registered high enough to concern the doctor and assign us homework. Now I have to take my blood pressure regularly and report back or receive a scolding, or at least another disapproving look from the nurse.
Now to the fun part. Our doctor gave us another chance to observe our baby's internal gymnastics via the miracle of ultrasound. While technological advances have taken a lot of guesswork out of pregnancy, I think our baby is trying to save some of the surprises for her birth.

In our first ultrasound, she faced backward with her legs crossed at the ankle. Today she decided to pull out all the stops and sit in the pike position with her feet in front of her face. She had her arms crossed in front of her face for good measure, and played with her foot as we watched. The doctor tried to make things clearer by going to 4-D ultrasound, but pointed out that there was just too much interference. Between the feet, hands, and umbilical cord, the picture didn't really show too much, although we're now positive on the number of fingers and toes.

Honestly, the biggest surprise for the day was an accident. Early in the ultrasound, the doctor was trying to hit one of the pre-programmed buttons to place text in the picture, when he inadvertently hit the "It's a boy" button. It sent a jolt of surprise through Jeff and me, but he quickly stuttered out a retraction and hit the "arm" button. And he wonders why I have high blood pressure. Sheesh.
