Our Silent Runners

Jeff and I are pleased, proud and ecstatic to announce that we are now a diaper free household!! Norah has been out of diapers for some time now, only wearing pull ups at bed time. Justin tried to potty train, but was still in the phase that requires several pairs of underwear a day and copious amounts of Resolve (meaning both the name brand carpet cleaner and the character quality).

I took them to the store to get groceries and on a whim picked up more "Nemos" (translation: fruit snacks). This was our main potty training bribe, but in an attempt to be more economical, I switched to a big container of Twizzlers which after a day, both kids decided they disliked immensely. As if by magic that was all it took for Justin to go from wetting through underwear on a regular basis, to being able to wear them all day long without incident. I have been so impressed (and shocked) by his progress. He now wears them all the time, even on outings and we couldn't be more pleased. He still wears pull ups to bed, but wakes up dry almost every single morning, so we know we are almost done with those as well.

We decided let Norah start sleeping in her panties instead of pull ups after hearing her get up on her own to use the bathroom in the middle of the night for several nights in a row. We try to help her out by limiting how much she drinks right before bed, as well as by taking her to the bathroom before we head to bed. If either of us gets up in the middle of the night, we try to take her again. She has done an amazing job and we are so proud of her too!

Both Jeff and I loved the sound of swishing that our little ones made as they ran through the house in their diapers. It's a sound completely unique to toddlers in their diapers and one we truly enjoyed. We often remarked upon how cute it was and how much we would miss it once it was gone. However, we'll never get nostalgic over the expense of diapers and pull ups. We will enjoy the silence of our children as they go running by, knowing that we have survived potty training!
