Little Tree Hugger

For whatever reason, Norah has decided that while we are on walks, every tree we pass needs a hug. It was cute at first seeing our little girl run up to each tree saying "the tree needs a hug". But as the duration of the walk is exponentially increased by each hug, we find ourselves becoming exasperated, ready to move forward (especially with the summer heat). Justin seems to be the only one unfazed by this routine, and continues sitting in his stroller stoically observing the antics of his sister.

It took a moment to stop and realize what a blessing these pauses are. They are moments for celebrating the wonder and beauty that is both childhood and nature. How long has it been since any of us stopped to marvel at the quiet grace of a tree, the uniqueness of a leaf, or the shape of an acorn? To Norah and Justin, the mundane and ordinary are transformed into the exciting and extraordinary. Or perhaps, they never changed, we're just seeing them through the eyes of our children.

Once again we are humbled by the lessons they are teaching us.
