Relaxation

Matthew and I decided to take an early morning run up the mountain. We quickly realized some harsh realities about running at 6,311 feet and climbing with very thin air. It was a short trip.

Grandma and Papa decided to rest and enjoy some rare and well deserved pampering at the spa while the rest of us fools decided to climb the mountain trail with Norah and Justin. While the trail itself was not terribly steep due to switchbacks, the slope off the edge was dizzying, urging us to hold the kids' hands or carry them more often than not. It was a short trip.

We all headed into town to view the "Town Square Shootout", a mainstay of Jackson Hole tradition. Cowboys, a snake oil salesman and his cronies, a female sheriff and saloon showgirls mingled with the gathering crowds around one of the four iconic arches of antlers as the intersection was blocked off from traffic. Gun-play soon followed, loudly grasping the attention of Norah and Justin. This was probably the most widely discussed and memorable portion of the trip for them, however it nearly took an act of Congress to persuade them to approach any of the actors for a picture afterward. Their Texas upbringing might incorrectly suggest greater comfort with the costume and the firearms, but their behavior proved otherwise. Evidently their instincts discouraged association with strangely dressed people brandishing firearms.
