Helping Me Out

Norah is well known for trying to help me with caring for Justin. I try to encourage this behavior as much as possible, but sometimes I wonder if I'm getting a little too much help.

This afternoon Justin was on the floor (in his chair) in the living room. I was in the kitchen making dinner, and Norah was running all over the place. Justin had decided that he was tired of not being held and started to cry. I needed to finish making dinner, so while I tried talking to him as I cooked it was not what he wanted and he continued to cry. All of a sudden, he stopped. I stopped what I was doing and walked around the corner to find him with Norah's cell phone on his head, her doll across his lap, and a startled look on his face. Apparently she had decided that if her mommy wasn't going to try and cheer him up, she would.

A week later he was in his swing as I was picking up Norah's toys. Justin had once again decided that enough was enough and was crying. So big sister brought him her baby doll and again put it across his chest. It immediately halted his tears, but again he had a very confused look on his face. I suggested to Norah that perhaps he might like her bunny better than her doll. So she grabbed her bunny, plopped it on his head and walked off. The look Justin gave me seemed to say "Please don't help anymore".
