We have formed a daily routine over the last few weeks. Jeff will try to feel the baby's movements in the morning before work, then again as soon as I get home, and once more just before bed, with a few random attempts scattered in throughout the day.
So far we've only succeeded twice. Just before bed I felt her twirling around and Jeff put his hand on my belly. She gave a strong kick and Jeff quickly looked up at me and said "Was that her?" A few seconds later she did it again, eliciting the same response. We knew he had definitely felt her. Two quick kicks were confirmation enough. We have heard the heartbeat, seen ultrasounds, identified her gender, bought some baby necessities, but now Jeff has actually felt her!
A few days passed, without any luck in the baby detection quest, but yesterday we had a new experience. We followed the usual protocol with Jeff placing his hand on my belly, but had no noticeable response. After a moment, Jeff placed his ear against my belly to listen, and she immediately responded. Jeff looked up at me with a surprised look and said "I think she just kicked me in the head!" It's a small thing, but it's another special moment shared in the parental experience, and there's only one first time to get kicked in the head by your child.
