As Christmas and the New Year rapidly approach, and the days blur together in a swirl of lights, colors, and sounds, we have stopped to reflect on the past year and all that we have been through.
Last January, after all the frustrations of 2005, I confidently predicted that 2006 would definitely be a good year. It was only a few weeks later that we went through our first miscarriage. At the time I couldn't see how 2006 could possibly be anything other than a disaster, but despite the many heartaches, the year has been rich in love, laughter and hope.
Jeff switched jobs and passed his licensing exam. My family moved from Houston to Argentina, Patrick graduated from high school and started college, both Matthew and Patrick were confirmed, and my Grandpa passed away. Friends got engaged, friends got married, and friends welcomed new babies into their families. Old friendships were renewed, and new friendships were created. We joined a Bible study group, and Jeff has been preparing to run a marathon. Jeff and I endured a lot of medication, injections and hormone fluctuations, and experienced another surgery and two miscarriages. Now we are finally expecting our Sugar Baby next June. It has been a year of beginnings and endings, and never is that more apparent than now, when the current year comes to a close, and a new one begins.
In retrospect, I believe I was right, 2006 was a good year. It was good because we were surrounded by family and friends to help us through the hard times and celebrate our good news, and we are thankful for everyone that made life easier. We hope you had a Merry Christmas, and have a Happy New Year!
